My son is taking Concerta extended release of 27mg once a day and it seems to help him in school. But when he gets home it wears off and I have to work extra hard to help him in areas of homework most of the time it gets hectic. So any suggestions or advice would be welcomed.

I have my son on Ritilan. We give him 20mg in the morning for school. It does wear off by the time he gets home for homework. His Dr. put him on 5mg at 4:00, now homework is a breeze and he is still hungry by dinner time. It's just enough to finish the day. It also helps him in his football/baseball practice in the evenings.

A week ago doctor increased his Concerta to 36mg for the mornings and put him on Focalin 2.5mg after he gets home from school. Hopefully it'll help.

My son was recently diagnosed with ADHD and is on a slow release medication. He's doing so much better in School but, he's not sleeping at all at night. Anyone else having this problem?

My son had the same issue... go back to your doctor to see what they recommend to bring him down. Basiclly his brain isn't shutting down at night, when we address this with my son our doctor recommend a small dose of melotonin. It helped slow down his mind so that his body could rest. It's easy to find at Walmart, CVS, and Walgreen.
Hope this helps...

hi amy my son is on the same medicine .with the busy life style i have found it very helpful that we have a routine of doing everything at the same time on a daily basesand once you do that they no what to expect.. like mornings is wake up shower, get dressed, take medicine eat breakfast, watch cartoons and go to school.when he get home from school he gives me his backpack, gets a juice and we sit down and do homework quit in the house so he can focas on his work. play for about a hour and than eat dinner play for awhile or we do something together than bedtime. i have found out that this was a good thing when i was off work for a 2 months this is what we did and it help him a lot now that i am back at work and do not have a routine on the days i work he is really not listing well but on my days off he looks forward to doing the routine and listens well and has a better day.note when i work i am gone 14 hrs. hope this will be helpfull.

Hi Amy, My son also takes 36mg Concerta, about 5 months ago his neurologist added 2 mg Intuniv afterschool to help with the homework. It seems to be doing a great job and doesn't affect his appetite or sleeping.

My son currently takes 2 36mg Concerta in the morning along with 5mg Focalin and it helps him in school. He currently makes A/B honor roll and he loves school. But the kids bully him because of his vocal tics :(
