About Betty

My mother is an 80-year-old senior that I have returned to New York City to be close to. She is doing well but I still have much to learn from her wisdom, experience, and caring spirit. I have great respect for seniors and have done some volunteering at senior centers. I am caring and compassionate and truly believe seniors have a great deal to offer and certainly they deserve to get some of what they have given their families and society, in their golden years. When I was a young girl I learned that my grandmother was illiterate and unable to even write her name. Thus, I bought a notebook and taught her to write her first name. She is actually still alive and recalls that. I enjoy speaking to and helping the elderly. They have great stories to tell. In high school I wrote a one act play about the challenges that confront the elderly and won a writing award for it. I am not sure why I have always been drawn to seniors. Perhaps it was instilled in me as a child to have great respect for the elderly.
