About Catherine

Hello! I am a 1st grade teacher for Newton Public Schools. I am in my fourth year of teaching in Newton (the first two years, I taught 2nd grade). Prior to working for NPS, I have taught kindergarten, fifth grade, and fourth grade for Westwood Public Schools, Waltham Public Schools, and Boston Public Schools. I am certified in early childhood education in MA (preK-2nd) and in elementary education (1-6th). Additionally, I am certified in teaching English as a Second Language (K-8th). For four years, I attended evening law school while working full-time as a teacher because I am passionate about education policy and advocacy. As a tutor, I am extremely dedicated to meeting the diverse needs of learners in order to provide an entry point into learning. I am passionate about implementing evidence-based practices to build students' foundational skills in reading, writing, and math. I believe in creating a learning environment that empowers students to take risks and to enjoy the process.
