About Emily

I've always had a desire to work with children, and have done so at some capacity since I was 12 years old. Although my work in the past as an assistant coach and an assistant dance camp counselor dealt with kids in their early teens, my most recent experiences have been with kids ages 4 to 10. For two years during college, I worked for Jump-start, an AmeriCorps program geared toward improving language, literacy, and social skills in at-risk preschool children. My work with Jump-start led me to become a camp counselor for at-risk youth in Brooklyn New York, where we went on pre-arranged field trips to museums, parks, movie theaters, and sporting events throughout New York City. Most recently I worked as a summer camp counselor for children with Asperger's syndrome, autism, and other cognitive deficits. Having worked with children with an array of special needs (ranging from ADHD to behavioral disorders to autism), I am sensitive to their challenges and have a genuine interest in helping them to recognize and actualize their capacities. I believe my experiences as a camp counselor and Corps Member are testaments to my boundless energy and my commitment to helping youth build confidence and self-awareness. And of course all of this comes second to having fun!
