I am a death doula and my specific focus of senior care is companionship and end of life planning. This includes ensuring the senior has a dignified death in the comfort of their own home if that is what they wish. After my own experience with the loss of both of my parents, I learned a lot and have experienced first hand the panic and anxiety when a loved one's health really begins to decline. And while it is completely understandable to want to seek professional care, many seniors with terminal diagnosis or rapidly deteriorating health actually want to die surrounded by loved ones, in the peace and comfort of their own home. What happens too often is that people panic when their loved one's health takes a turn for the worst and call an ambulance only for their loved one to die in the stale room of a hospital. I know because I was that panicked family member. And I didn't realize until much later that when I saw the signs of death approaching, I should have paused.
