Director of Bright Roots Home Child Care, a licensed family child care program in Upper Marlboro, Maryland. I am Adult and Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED certified and trained in Medication Administration, SIDS/Safe Sleep, Emergency Preparedness and Planning, Basic Health and Safety, Breastfeeding Awareness, and ADA/Inclusion practices. With hands-on experience caring for infants, toddlers, and young children, I am committed to providing a safe, nurturing, and engaging environment where children can learn, grow, and thrive. I believe in building strong partnerships with families and supporting each child's development through responsive, high-quality care.
Growing up, there was one house on the block that always seemed full of life. On any given weekend, you could find people gathered in the backyard, music playing, food on the grill, and kids running around laughing. Whether it was a block party, graduation celebration, family gathering, or just neighbors stopping by, Ms. Lakeya’s door was always open. To me, she wasn’t just Ms. Lakeya—she was like an aunt. She always treated me like one of her own. Her children and husband were an extension of her heart. The same warmth, generosity, and love she showed others could be seen in the way they treated people. No matter what was going on, I was included. Whether it was an outing, dinner, or even a family meeting, they made space for me and my voice. I never felt like an outsider in Ms. Lakeya’s home; I felt like family. Genuine compassion and the ability to make people feel loved and safe are gifts, and Ms. Lakeya has them naturally. I experienced that care firsthand, and now, at 21 years old, I still carry the impact of it with me.
