About Leslie

I am interested in working with the elderly because I have a great love for them. I've always been surrounded by elders with needs. My mother, adopted parents, and my in-laws have an average age of 84 years. They need a lot of assistance with their daily life activities. My experience assisting those I love has motivated me to work with the elderly. I also think this assistance must be accompanied by knowledge, skills, respect, and compassion for the elderly patient. So I was motivated gained that knowledge by going back to school. It is important to emphasize that elderly patients are not children, so they need to be addressed with great tact, patience and finesse. I have had a lot of experience working in the area of health. I've worked with the elderly in health care in my home country Honduras for 15 years, and here in the United States as a certified nursing assistant. I have worked with the elderly in peritoneal dialysis, stroke, and Alzheimer's disease. As a certified CNA along with my past experience, I fully understand the needs of the elderly and in special the needs of patients with dementia. I know it's a challenge to work with them but with specific techniques I can work to improve their recent memory, and to promote their independence in their daily living activities while showing love and compassion and respect for them.
