My name is Martha. I am a 46-year-old woman originally from Colombia, but I have been living in the tri-state area for more than 20 years. I love children and have been taking care of kids for years. I was with one family in one way or another for 11 years and was lucky to watch the kids in that family grow from infants to 7 and 4-year-olds. I am still in touch with them (I babysit fairly regularly), and have a good relationship with both parents. The job ended because they only needed part-time work and I need a full-time job. My last job was caring for a 3-year-old and a newborn baby. That job only ended because the family suddenly re-located to Florida. I have also raised 3 kids by myself. My boys are both in college, and my daughter is currently a Sophomore at Columbia University. I am an honest, patient person with a good sense of humor. I believe in teaching kids to be polite and interested in the world around them. I am always trying to teach kids new things, but can also get down on the floor and have fun, whether its coloring or reading or playing made-up games. I can cook and understand that kids need to have healthy meals and snacks. I speak and understand English well, and I am fluent in Spanish (I am happy to teach your kids Spanish if you would like). I have a clean driver's license and I am comfortable with pets. I am tidy and don't mind light housework (doing your kids' laundry, making sure the kitchen stays clean). I am punctual and flexible with my time. I also swim quite well and would be happy to teach your kids to swim or to take them for lessons!
Martha is by far the best sitter I have ever had. She is smart, she is creative, and she truly loves kids. She is a hard worker, and when the kids didn't need her, she would find things to do around the house to occupy her time (and of course be helpful to us). In all the time she took care of my kids, she never called in sick. She was always on time and always in a good mood. She is extremely honest and I would trust her with anything Martha was kind and patient with both of my kids (now 8 and 5), but made sure that they were polite. She would laugh and play with them, but also taught them things - some Spanish, early math, how to think about their own questions so that they might find the answer themselves. She also loves to swim and would take my kids swimming whenever there was time. As a person, Martha is very easy to be around. I work from home and never found her invasive or intrusive. I truly enjoyed her company. She is someone who "gets" things. She knew when to come to me with a problem and when something was small enough to not mention. She has common sense and experience - not just with other people's kids, but with her own, all of whom are lovely (and grown). Whoever is lucky enough to hire Martha as their nanny or sitter has truly found a gem.
