When I first spoke to Mary over the phone she seemed wonderful. She provided me with two references, which were both glowing. We set up a time to meet, which is where the red flags started to appear.

She missed our first appointment (I brought my elderly Dad to a Starbucks near her home so they could meet in person before we hired her.) I texted her ten minutes before our meeting time to let her know we had arrived. She never showed. I texted her several times to make sure she hadn’t gone to the wrong location and 45 minutes later she finally texted me that she had been in a “minor” car accident and would be unable to meet. My instincts told me this was suspicious, but as she was an LPN and her references spoke so highly of her,  so I decided to give her the benefit of the doubt and reschedule. 

She made it to the second appointment and everything seemed fine, although she was now telling me that the days she was available to work were different from those she offered me initially. This wouldn’t have been a big deal if she admitted she had a change of schedule, or had misspoken, but she claimed that she did not. Second red flag. But my Dad seemed to like her and he was keen for the help of an LNP, so I disregarded my instincts.

I offered her the job and she accepted. I sent her full on-boarding paperwork, which she needed to submit via email to be hired through the VA program that funds my Dad’s care. She confirmed that she had received the paperwork and would complete it promptly. A week later, she had still not completed it. (This is 5 minutes worth of paperwork, btw.) I texted her and she assured me she would complete it that day. Then she told me she “couldn’t find the email” even though she had confirmed receipt a week prior, so I resent. Then the next day she texts me and quits, stating that her sister had dementia and she would be unable to accommodate any more care work.

I was not going to post a negative review, considering she may indeed be shouldering personal caregiving responsibilities, but then she applied to my new posting looking for a caregiver for my Dad! This is 2 days after she quit! So 48 hours after telling me she couldn’t handle my Dad’s care (12 hours per week), she’s back on Caregiver applying for more positions and reapplied for my listing. I find this highly suspicious.

I do not know if she is lying to me, or if she is telling the truth and just really disorganized, irresponsible and unprofessional - but I would proceed with caution. I found her to be untrustworthy and terrible at communicating. 


Mary is a skilled and caring nurse.  She treated my father with respect and compassion during his illness.  She is a hard worker, reliable, on-time, and committed to her patient.  Mary is a pleasure to work with.

Positive, knowledgeable, qualified and supportive.  Her interaction with our mother, always respectful and communicative the entire time.  Supportive of her needs, our questions and the situation that was new to us.  Mary cared for all of us through a difficult couple months of hospice.  She truly enjoys and loves taking care of others.

Mary has been amazing when caring for my mother (who has moderate dementia).  She is extremely patient and provides great communication. She truly has been a god send! 

Excellent caregiver. Knowledgeable. Shows initiative. Assisted in finding other LPNs. Dependable.  Punctual.  Friendly.  Outgoing. We were very lucky to find her!

Mary is a great nurse! She is kind and caring.  She has tremendous patience with people and her nursing skills are on point. She is on time and reliable.

Mary got a star from because she's a hard worker. Mary will go out of her way to make the client that she is taking care of comfortable. She's never late and always on time. Yes understanding and she is a very lovable person. She has been doing this for a long time and she really knows her job and knows how to handle herself. She's always looking for her clients and she always go beyond the call of duty if she has to for her clients I've never had anyone that does that or works as hard as she does. We work together on cases and I've never seen anybody work as hard as she does. So if you're looking for somebody that's responsible it's caring and understanding she is the one that you want to take care of your loved one without a doubt.

Was shadowing to see if it was good fit 1st day called in 2nd day had some difficulties with transferring. Had misunderstanding about when pay would be available Came in am when she was told after 6pm Screamed and slammed doors The foul name that she called me were disgusting and shocking. After she received her pay she said sorry for flying off handle. Glad found out how she handles issues before hiring.  Extremely disappointed .

Mary was very quick to reply, but unfortunately the hours didn't work out. 

Mary has a lot of experience. She is dependable, friendly, knowledgeable, and has a good sense of humor.

Mary wonderful, more than just a caregiver.  She quickly took an interest in my Dad and made his days feel valued as he shared his life stories while she baked his favorite sweets.
