About Maya

I have spent the last 5 years working with youth in an educational capacity, from tutoring with families and in a local elementary school, to working as an assistant teacher in a middle school special education classroom, to facilitating civic engagement workshops with high schoolers. My experience, joy, and interest lie in using creative methods to make content engaging and accessible to all students, and first and foremost working with students' strengths. I am especially familiar with middle school curriculum, and have worked with students with a variety of considerations, including ADHD, learning and cognitive disabilities, and problems with emotional regulation. Along with thoughtful lesson planning, developing strong relationships with every student is core to my work. Remote learning certainly presents a challenge, but I do believe we can harness this time as an opportunity for quality one-on-one learning, as well as for learning in ways we may not always get to in a classroom.
