About Melanie

Hi! I'm Melanie! I have 22+ years experience as a reading/English teacher and as an after-school/summer program coordinator. I am currently on a leave of absence from the classroom and am venturing into private tutoring because I find joy in student success and students have more success in a one-on-one environment that caters to their personality and exact learning needs. I love to create fun interactive learning activities and games for my students to "trick" them into learning! I have been trained in the Orton- Gillingham phonics program and have worked with grades K-12 in basic reading instruction, reading comprehension, and writing instruction. I also have experience working with K-6 students in math and K-12 students in social studies. In my free time, I enjoy reading, playing with my dog, and going to the beach (when the Michigan weather allows of course!)
