My special interests include exploration-based curriculum, arts integration, cultural and language diversity, and children with special needs. Mel and I worked together in an integrated preschool in 2015-2017, and we have been fast friends ever since. Mel is that parent you immediately trust with your child, and she is that teacher your kids are immediately drawn to as a symbol of calm, safety, and understanding. Mel just *gets* kids - all kids. She respects children of all ages as autonomous beings, while recognizing that kids need guidance and exemplars. With Mel, "watch and learn" is not just a school-time teaching moment reserved for lessons. That said, I have never met a woman so interested in understanding how people work, how the dynamics of various families operate, with such deep respect. No family is "common," and Mel, better than most people, understands that each family unit is unique, has a history, and breathes with its own tempo and perspective. I would trust Mel not just to teach, but to care for my own quirky kids. I learned with and from her, and I would encourage anyone else to do the same.
