About Rhoda

The first two times Rhoda watched our children went well overall. Our kids genuinely liked her, and she was kind and engaging with them. She did arrive late both times, but I felt those were issues we could have worked through over time once she got used to the drive. Unfortunately, our experience changed the next time we had her scheduled to babysit. She did not show up, after confirming the night before, and because her phone was on Do Not Disturb, I was unable to reach her. She didn't respond until about five hours after she was supposed to arrive, after I had already missed work to stay home with my children. She eventually provided an explanation, but by that point the situation had already caused a significant disruption for our family. I had originally left a five-star review because I genuinely wanted to support her and help another family. Shortly after we hired Rhoda, our former nanny of more than a year became available again, so we chose to return to someone our children already knew and were comfortable with. My original review reflected the positive experiences we had at that time. Looking back, there were a few other things that gave me pause. By the second day, Rhoda had driven our 3-year-old and 1-year-old to the park. She did text me while I was working to ask if it was okay, and while I was with a client I texted back saying I guess its okay since she had car seats in her car, but I was uncomfortable and uneasy the remainder of my time at work- we never even inspected her car seats first, and I didn't realize until I spoke with my husband later that he had specifically told her he didn't want her driving with them. She also introduced my daughter to taking "selfies," which made me wonder how much phone use occurred while she was caring for the kids. I do believe Rhoda has the potential to be a great nanny. Our children enjoyed spending time with her, and I personally liked her as well. However, reliability and communication are essential when caring for young children, and our experience fell short in those areas. I hope this serves as constructive feedback and that, with more experience and professionalism, she has many positive experiences with future families. I would simply encourage parents to clearly communicate expectations and make sure everyone is on the same page before hiring.
