Caring for someone with vascular dementia requires an extraordinary amount of patience, compassion, and kindness, and we were incredibly fortunate to have a caregiver like her. She cared for my 84-year-old father for 12 hours each day, and she treated him with the dignity, respect, and genuine affection that every family hopes their loved one will receive. My dad loved being outdoors, and rather than keeping him inside, she would happily hold his hand and walk with him outside for hours, allowing him to enjoy the fresh air and sunshine that brought him so much happiness. She made each day special by taking him to get his favorite hamburgers and milkshakes, simple outings that meant the world to him. Knowing how important familiar faces and memories were, she constantly talked with him about our family, helping him remember the people he loved. Even more importantly, she talked with him all day long. She understood that conversation, companionship, and human connection were just as important as his physical care. She also took great pride in his appearance. My father was always clean-shaven, neatly dressed, and looked like the gentleman he had always been. She never overlooked the little details that preserved his dignity. The greatest testament to her care was how much my father loved her. He looked forward to seeing her every day, and it was clear that the feeling was mutual. She didn't just care for him—she truly cared about him. Our family will always be grateful for the love, patience, joy, and respect she brought into my father's life. We cannot recommend her highly enough.
