This is a criminal background check required for all caregivers before they can message families.
Experience: 10 yrs
I am married with six grown children and eight grandchildren. I have been a caregiver most of my life as a job as well as caring for my own family. I was the sole caregiver for my father for several years when he became ill. I am very used to medication management, making appointments and transporting to appointments. I am open to some housekeeping, cooking, running errands and activities for your loved one. Most recently I cared for an Alzheimer's patient who quickly needed 24/7 care. Let me help you keep your loved ones at home and as independent as long as possible.
My assessment of Samantha: Godsend! I met Samantha in early 2022 when I began searching for a caregiver to assist me with caring for my elder mom. I was immediately impressed by Samantha’s reputation on care.com and, despite her having no immediate availability, I knew she would be the person I’d eventually hire for this most important role. Samantha and I stayed in touch, continuing to talk about my mother’s condition and her care. She provided me with lots of invaluable advice long before formally signing on. Several months later as other client work was ending, Samantha contacted me and immediately began helping with my mom’s care. Initially, twice daily on weekdays (with me providing care in the evenings and on weekends). As my mother’s condition deteriorated, Samantha transitioned into a full-time caregiver, visiting seven days a week and during the evening. Throughout our time together, she established a great rapport with my mom and felt more like a trusted family friend than a hired caregiver or companion. I cannot stress how important or how challenging that was (my mom was fiercely independent and fully taking care of herself until her mid/late 90s)! Beside meals, housework and hygiene duties, Samantha did two other very important things for us. My mom was in at-home hospice care for the final two years of her life. Dealing with (some of) the hospice personnel and bureaucracy was – at times – very challenging. Samantha did a magnificent job of helping me advocate for my mother’s interests and cutting through a lot of red tape. But even more importantly, Samantha drew from her vast patient-care experience and personal instincts to help my mom enjoy her final years. She created fun activities and games that my mom was able to enjoy, in spite of being bedridden. These are things I would never have accomplished as well, or even at all. My mom and I enjoyed nearly a two and half year relationship with Samantha. My mom passed just four months from her 100th birthday. Samantha attended her funeral and continued to check in with me afterwards to make sure I was doing okay. I miss my mom every day, and I also miss seeing Samantha. She made both of our days a lot brighter.
