About Shelby

Hello families! I've been in education settings (schools and nonprofits) for the last eight years; five of those years were spent in lead Kindergarten and First grade positions in Memphis. As I transition out of the classroom to focus more on my second graduate degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, I am looking to use my skills and excitement to help struggling readers. While I've used a variety of curricula and approaches to reading/writing instruction, the Orton Gillingham method has been by far the most powerful. With consistency, patience, and the hands-on approaches I learned from the Institute for Multisensory Education, I know I can help students grow significantly in their reading abilities. In private tutoring sessions, I will include -Explicit phonics instruction (OG/Recipe for Reading) -Explicit phonemic awareness instruction (Heggerty) -Explicit writing and reading instruction (IMSE materials) We can work together to instruction to your child's needs!
