Experience: 5 yrs
Hello, my name is Sierra. I have been a caregiver for many years, but consistently for the past 6 years. Throughout my career, I've had the wonderful opportunity to support individuals of all ages with compassion, patience and respect. My experience includes assisting with ADL's, providing emotional support, and ensuring a safe and comfortable environment for those in my care.
Sierra was truly a godsend to our family. She cared for my father during the final weeks of his life and remained devoted to his comfort, safety, and dignity throughout an extraordinarily difficult time. From the moment she arrived, Sierra made it clear that she was there not simply to complete a list of duties, but to care for my father as a whole person and to support me through every stage of his decline. What distinguished Sierra most was her patience and attentiveness. As my father became weaker and had increasing difficulty speaking and expressing what he needed, she never rushed him, interrupted him, or spoke over him. She would sit quietly beside his bed, listen carefully, and give him all the time he needed to communicate. Her calm presence reassured him, and he came to trust her completely. Sierra was exceptionally vigilant. She kept his monitor with her, responded immediately to the slightest sound, and checked on him throughout the night. She even set an hourly alarm as an additional precaution so that she could be certain he was safe and comfortable. As his condition worsened, she was often getting up every hour, yet she continued to respond with patience, kindness, and compassion. She also brought the practical experience and physical skill that our family desperately needed. Sierra safely assisted my father as his mobility declined—from using a walker and wheelchair to requiring a bedside commode and eventually becoming almost completely dependent on others. She knew how to transfer, position, groom, dress, feed, and provide personal care while protecting his privacy and dignity. Toward the end, she was the only caregiver he would allow to assist him with his most personal needs because he trusted her judgment, strength, and gentle manner. Sierra understood that caregiving is about much more than meeting physical needs. Soon after she arrived, she encouraged my father to shave, brush his teeth, dress in clean clothes, and spend a little time out of bed. She would select an outfit for him, tell him how handsome he looked, and gently encourage him to sit at the table. Although he had previously wanted to remain in bed, her encouragement helped him feel more like himself and allowed him to enjoy parts of the day that he might otherwise have missed. Her clinical awareness was also invaluable. Within a very short time, Sierra recognized signs that my father might be experiencing urinary retention and strongly encouraged me to seek emergency care, even after others had initially reassured us that he was fine. At the hospital, a significant amount of retained urine was discovered and relieved. Her observation, experience, and willingness to speak up prevented him from continuing to suffer and gave us additional precious time with him. As my father’s needs changed, Sierra understood each stage. When he could no longer feed himself, she patiently fed him. When he could no longer drink normally, she adapted from a cup to a straw and eventually to oral sponges. She helped me understand his medications, when to contact hospice, how to keep him comfortable, and what changes I should watch for. She was not afraid to advocate for him when she believed something was being overlooked. Sierra was also a source of strength and guidance for me. I had never cared for someone through the final stages of life, and everything changed very quickly. She helped me understand what was happening, showed me what needed to be done, and remained beside me when my father passed away. Her presence gave me confidence during moments that were frightening, overwhelming, and deeply painful. Sierra is skilled, dependable, observant, compassionate, and exceptionally dedicated. She has the experience to manage demanding hands-on care, but just as importantly, she has the heart and temperament to make a vulnerable person feel safe, respected, and genuinely cared for. She became like family to us, and I will always be grateful for the devotion she showed my father. I recommend Sierra without hesitation to any family seeking a trustworthy, experienced, and deeply compassionate caregiver. Anyone fortunate enough to hire her will be placing their loved one in extraordinarily capable and caring hands.
