She would help her feel comfortable, even giving her evening foot massages to help her relax. She also assisted with medications when needed, and when my aunt eventually needed her medication crushed and mixed into applesauce, Valerie handled those changes with care and understanding. Valerie has the patience of Job. She is intelligent, well-spoken, attentive, and makes sure the person she is caring for feels heard, respected, and valued. That is especially important for someone living with dementia or anyone experiencing a loss of independence. Over time, my aunt came to see Valerie not just as a caregiver, but as a friend. Valerie brought kindness, warmth, and cheerfulness into my aunt’s life.
