Unfortunately, I would not recommend Sahara based on our experience. After two phone calls and a formal interview, we agreed on a three-hour trial for Friday from 4:00–7:00 PM so she could meet the children, become familiar with the home, and see if it was a good fit for everyone. This schedule had been clearly communicated and agreed upon since Monday. Communication throughout the process was also challenging. There were several occasions when we called or messaged her and would not receive a response for many hours, sometimes almost the entire day. We were trying to coordinate schedules with a very busy family, specifically making time in their agenda for her interview and trial, so timely communication was extremely important. When someone is actively looking for a position and has expressed interest in a job, we would expect them to be responsive when the family is trying to reach them and coordinate next steps. Unfortunately, that was not our experience. The day before the scheduled trial, after we had tried calling her several times to confirm, she eventually responded later in the afternoon saying that she could only come after 6:00 PM, despite having agreed to the 4:00–7:00 PM schedule several days earlier. For a childcare position, reliability, responsiveness, communication, and respect for a family’s time are essential. After investing time in multiple conversations, an interview, and rearranging schedules to accommodate the agreed-upon trial, the lack of responsiveness and last-minute change felt extremely unprofessional and unreliable. Based on our experience, we did not feel comfortable relying on her for childcare and decided not to move forward.
