My background has been in taking care of children, but when the state was going to take over the care of my grandparents, I stepped in and my family moved in with them. My grandmother had alzheimer's. I took care of both of my grandparents on all levels. Currently I do what I can to care for my aging parents, although they do not live nearby. I have stepped up and advocated for their care as much as I can. I am a caregiver at heart. I have always had a soft spot in my heart for the elderly, ever since I was a young child. Recently, I watched my neighbor for years, stepping in to help when the family wasn't available, getting groceries, prescriptions and just being a good friend to her. Unfortunately, she passed this past May.
