I am open, gentle, strong. I like caring for seniors because I find kinship and meaning in their company. I started caring for seniors when my mother became ill. At that time I was an assistant professor of theater studies at the University of Iowa. My mother always valued my creativity but while I was caring for her she looked at me one. day with an amazed look on her face and said, "Trish! You're a wonderful nurse!" That was a talent of mine of which neither of us had been aware. Later, when I was looking for a meaningful part-time job, I remembered her words, and here I am, a certified personal care aide, writing my bio on Care. Com. In my spare time, I teach "devoted listening" and "speaking in the here and now." I spend time with my husband and my black cat. I like to read. My first priority is kindness. My skills include encouraging physical activity when possible, asking questions to guide our time together, light housekeeping and personal help of many kinds.
